# StarForth Documentation Audit
**Date:** 2025-12-14
**Scope:** Complete documentation directory structure and content
**Purpose:** Identify gaps, inconsistencies, and opportunities for improvement

## Executive Summary
**Strengths:**
- Well-organized numbered directory structure (01-07)
- Comprehensive coverage of experiments, architecture, and quality
- New HAL documentation is thorough and well-integrated
- Good archive strategy for historical content
**Key Issues Identified:**
1. **Missing READMEs** in 6 of 7 numbered directories
2. **Inconsistent metadata** (some docs lack dates, authors, status)
3. **Top-level clutter** (many loose files in `docs/`)
4. **Unclear StarKernel/StarshipOS vision** in existing docs
5. **Fragmented CLAUDE.md** (should reference HAL architecture)
6. **No architecture overview** tying subsystems together
